June Art: Must-See Shows to Brighten Your Month

Sadly the weather isn’t feeling so fabulous but there is a lot of beautiful art to cheer us up as we pull out winter cardies to keep us warm.

Firstly, the graduate and MA shows at the London art colleges are open this month, offering a fabulous insight into what’s happening right now on the art scene:

  • Slade Art School opened its doors on Friday 7th June.

  • The RCA show begins on Thursday 20th June.

Nazy Vassegh, founder of ‘Eye of the Collector’, has a new venue at The Garrison Chapel, Chelsea Barracks, with many galleries taking part from 26th June to 29th June. This event is not to be missed.

The prestigious Treasure House Fair, which has taken the place of Masterpiece, opens its doors at Royal Hospital Chelsea on Thursday 26th June.

For auction enthusiasts, Sotheby’s Bond Street will have its modern and contemporary sale on 25th & 26th June. Meanwhile, Phillips at Berkeley Square will hold their evening sale on 27th June, followed by an online sale continuing until 3rd July.

Exhibitions to see:

  • Gillian Jason Gallery, Fitzrovia: Showcasing Clare Shenstone’s amazing works, including portraits of her long-time friend Francis Bacon. Shenstone is a remarkable artist.

  • Guts Gallery: Hosting "The Future of Loneliness" until 25th June, a beautiful group show.

  • Hales Gallery: Showing Carole Gibbons’ "Of Silence and Slow Time" until 13th July.

  • Chisenhale Gallery: Featuring Rory Pilgrim’s work until 21st July.

These Trinidad-born siblings, renowned for their talents in choreography, music, and performance, are exhibiting their paintings in tandem for the first time. Geoffrey is famously known for playing Baron Samedi in "Live and Let Die," while Boscoe is credited with bringing limbo dancing and steel pan playing to the UK. This exhibition underscores their remarkable abilities in the visual arts.

  • The Wallace Collection: Flora Yukhnovich and François Boucher: "The Language of the Rococo" encourages visitors to reconsider preconceptions, explore how we can connect with the Rococo today, and examine the impact of display on art interpretation and historical re-evaluation.

Despite the chilly weather, June is brimming with spectacular art shows and events, offering a perfect excuse to immerse yourself in the vibrant art scene and stay warm indoors.
