Bridging Blue-Chip Majesty and Emerging Contemporary Talent
On May 3rd, in conjunction with MDS Fine Art, Artroom London brought together collectors from around the globe to meet and view the latest exhibition by celebrated British sculptor Tony Cragg at the magnificent and historic Castle Howard in Yorkshire.
The exhibition, which features over 20 of Cragg's monumental outdoor sculptures, showcases his distinctive abstract style against the exquisite backdrop of 18th-century landscaping. Demonstrating how old and new can harmoniously coexist, the exhibition also includes a selection of smaller works inside Castle Howard's grand rooms, where Cragg's sculptures blend seamlessly with the antique interiors. The pieces range from his iconic bronze and steel forms to intricate glass sculptures crafted in Murano, Venice.
We arranged an event where Tony Cragg and world-renowned curator Jonathan Wood conducted a Q&A session about the exhibition and Cragg's work. The ensuing conversations were captivating as Tony, an erudite and unassuming artist, provided insight into his approach to sculpture and life. His exploration of form and material, from organic shapes to industrial-inspired structures, reflects a deep curiosity about the relationship between humans and their environment.
Jonathan curated the entire Castle Howard show, and we engaged him to guide our clients on a private tour of the grounds and the castle's interior, offering a closer look at the vast array of works, including stunning smaller glass pieces crafted by renowned Murano glass specialists. Jonathan’s insights were complemented by anecdotes from Michelle D’Souza, founder of MDS Fine Art, who has a unique bond with Tony having worked with him for twenty years. Her knowledge of his work and Methodology is exhaustive and valuable.
The tour provided our collectors with an opportunity to consider which works would enhance their art collections and unique insights from a renowned artist and curator. Thank you to Michelle D’Souza, founder of MDS Fine Art, who’s long standing relationship with Tony Cragg supported the organisation of this wonderful event.
Building on the success of the Castle Howard event, Artroom London is thrilled to announce our next exclusive experience: a studio visit with emerging contemporary artist Megan Baker. Held at her studio in Walthamstow on the sunniest day of the year so far, this visit offered an exclusive preview of Megan's unreleased body of work. Represented by Gillian Jason Gallery,a gallery solely representing female artists . Megan draws inspiration from her lifelong admiration of Titian's "Bacchus and Ariadne" and her recent fascination with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, seen in her new works. Megan is set to showcase these pieces at Art Basel next month, followed by an exhibition in London during Frieze week.
This studio visit highlights Artroom London's commitment to fostering relationships across the art spectrum, from established blue-chip artists to groundbreaking emerging talents. Thanks to our robust network, Artroom London enjoys 'first pick' and exclusive access to Megan’s new pieces. We have facilitated the acquisition of many of Megan's works for our clients and are excited to introduce her latest creations.
